Police urging caution after reported Vancouver Coastal Health scam call

Powell River RCMP are asking you to be cautious with information following a report of a phone scam last week.

Police say a resident reported on July 6 that they had received a phone call from someone saying they were with Vancouver Coastal Health. The resident said the caller attempted to book an appointment to come to resident’s home and check its fire exit and first aid equipment.

Police say the caller said the appointment would cost $180, and then asked for the resident’s credit card number.

Officers say the resident hung up and phoned police. RCMP confirmed Vancouver Coastal Health is not running this type of program and none of their employees offer this service.

Police remind you to protect your personal information from unknown callers and to be cautious about allowing strangers into your home.
