Hospital district renamed qathet Regional Hospital District

This story has been corrected to clarify that the name change applies to the hospital district.

The qathet Regional District has announced the Powell River Regional Hospital District has officially changed its name to the qathet Regional Hospital District.

In a media release, the district says the name change was initiated to provide clarity around the purpose of the regional hospital district to act as a funding mechanism for hospital and healthcare services in the region, and the Tla’amin Nation.

Hospital board chair George Doubt says the name change is an opportunity to support an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.

“Given the name change was a known concern and was likely to have a significant impact, the board and the province requested public input prior to the meeting,” he says. “As directors, we take our orders from the public and the majority support the change.”

The hospital district was incorporated on Dec. 19, 1967, through letters patent to the Regional District Hospitals Act.
