Rec Complex Sauna Getting a Makeover

After noticing a number of issues, Powell River crews are renovating the sauna at the local rec complex.

Manager of Recreation for the City of Powell River Neil Pukesh says every year, they do an ‘aquatic shut-down’.

He says during that process, they noticed a number of issues with the sauna. Some of the concrete bench supports had failed, and there were some problems with insulation. He says all they’re waiting for now is the installation of the new bench.

“It’s gonna be fantastic once it opens. It’s a brand-new sauna at the end of the day, with all-new cedar panelling, tongue and groove, the finishing is pretty solid. Our residents are gonna be happy. It’s been a bit of an inconvenience for those regular users who have come to our complex, but once it opens up they’re gonna be very happy.”

In addition to the sauna refit, automatic door openers have been installed in the change rooms, fitness centre and the Dogwood Room, courtesy of a $17,000 grant from the Federal government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund.
