Disc Golf is a sports that continues to grow in popularity, and that can certainly be said in Powell River.
The new Sunset Park course has been running for a few weeks now, and Manager of Recreation for the City Neil Pukesh says residential feedback has been nothing but positive.
“This is an initiative that started probably about a year and a half ago from a group of citizens that came together and they thought this would be an excellent way of getting people back into our parks. We felt the same way,” he says.
“It addresses a lot of needs in our community such as the low cost-no cost opportunities. We already have the assets in place which are our parks and our trail systems, so why not add a new amenity to increase the utilization. So we thought this was a win-win.”
Another course will be built at Larry Gouthro Park. Pukesh says they hope to have shovels in the ground for that project within the next couple of weeks.
