Opening Day will be Thursday, May 2 for the 2024 season.
Nestled along the picturesque southeast shore of Powell Lake, Haywire Bay Regional Park and Campground offers a serene retreat for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The park features 49 individual RV and tent campsites, two group campsites, a cabin, piped drinking water, dry pit toilets, showers, a boat ramp, and two swimming beaches.
The park is operated and maintained by the qathet Regional District, with an onsite caretaker responsible for managing the campsite. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the park’s diverse wildlife, including osprey, eagles, and deer, while water lovers can enjoy fishing, boating, and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Powell Lake.
Bears, bobcats, and cougars have been reported in the park and precautions should be taken to avoid these animals. Visitors are encouraged not to leave food or garbage out as an attractant for these animals.
For those eager to explore, Haywire Bay offers many short walking and biking trails within the park. There are also major trails that connect to areas outside park boundaries:
- Lost Lake Trail – A 4km trail connecting Haywire Bay Park with the west side of Inland Lake.
- Inland Lake Trail – A 13 km wheelchair accessible trail that follows the shoreline circling Inland Lake.
- Sunshine Coast Trail – A 180 km trail that runs from Saltery Bay south of town to Sarah Point north of town and passes through Haywire Bay Regional Park.
