POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Emergency back-up goalie Cam Stevenson played the hero for the Powell River Kings this weekend.
With a depleted roster, the local product was thrust into action in Saturday’s game against Alberni Valley at Hap Parker Arena. The Kings were out for revenge after a close 4-3 loss on Friday night.
Stevenson stopped 21 shots on 22 attempts from the Bulldogs and earned the win in his first junior hockey appearance. The Kings beat Alberni Valley 4-1.
For his efforts, he was named the first star of the game.
The goalie change occurred after starting net-minder Mitch Adamyk was injured in a collision with Bulldogs forward Carter Harris and Kings defenseman Ben Raffler in the first period.
Up next for the Powell River Kings is a meeting against Merritt on Friday, Feb. 9th.
